Welcome to Flint Hills Learning Center! The Flint Hills Learning Center (FHLC) is Emporia Public Schools' alternative learning education center. The FHLC primarily provides high school and adult learners an opportunity to earn high school credit and further their education through an online and blended learning approach that is located at the Flinthills Mall.
Mission Statement
FHLC staff foster an educational environment that demonstrates academic and cognitive development in balance with the need to cultivate relationships and connect with our community. Staff work to meet the needs of our diverse learners through many pathways, including courses to achieve a high school diploma and others that support English language acquisition.

Welcome to Riverside Elementary School! Riverside was completed in time to begin the 2003-2004 school year. It currently houses kindergarten through fifth grades on the southeast side of the district. The opening of this new school brought together an increased number of certified and classified staff to serve a student population of over 400 students Riverside consists of a main corridor housing the media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, office complex, and classrooms with versatile walls that allow rooms to be connected or separated.

Timmerman Elementary School (kindergarten through grade 5)

Welcome to Timmerman Elementary School! Timmerman Elementary opened its doors on the northwest corner of Emporia in the fall of 2003. We serve Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Timmerman Elementary is named for an Americus native, Grant F. Timmerman. Mr. Timmerman was a sergeant in the Marine Corps who sacrificed his own life to save the lives of his tank crew while serving on the island of Saipan during World War II. Sergeant Timmerman was posthumously awarded The Medal of Honor with Citation, The Bronze Star, and The Purple Heart for his selfless act of heroism.

Welcome to Walnut Elementary School! Walnut Elementary School has been a part of the Emporia community in its present location for over 50 years. It is conveniently located in the northwest-central part of the city in an established neighborhood. Currently, about 280 students attend kindergarten through fifth grade classes at Walnut.Walnut’s friendly staff and facility provide a nurturing environment for students to begin their lifelong learning journey. Some of the students attending our school have parents and grandparents who are Walnut alumni. A creative, energetic group of parents support Walnut School through our active Parent Teacher Organization.
