Emporia Public Schools

Enrollment for 2019-2020 school year needs to be completed in person at the Flint Hills Learning Center inside the Flinthills Mall (1632 Industrial Rd) across from the movie theater.  For questions call 341-2396. Staff are available Monday -Thursday 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Enrollment Procedures

If you are new to the district, come to Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. 7th Ave. We are open Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm.

The following information is required for new students:

  • Birth certificate – kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before August 31
  • Immunization records
  • Physical exam (within 12 months of school entry for kindergarten/anytime during school career for older students)
  • Student records from the previous school (Grade 1 and above)

2019-20 Enrollment 

Enrollment for the new school year opens Monday, July 15. Enrollment can be completed from any location with internet access as long as it is submitted on or before July 28.

If you do not have a computer, access to the internet, or need assistance, computers will be available for your use at the Flint Hills Learning Center, 1624 Industrial Rd, located at the Flinthills Mall on the dates/times listed below.  Please allow at least 30 minutes to enroll each student.

  • Monday – Thursday, July 15-18 from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, in-person or online
  • Monday – Thursday, July 22-25 from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, in-person or online
  • Monday – Thursday, July 30-August 1 and August 5-8 from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, in-person only

Beginning August 12th, enrollment must be completed at Mary Herbert Education Center, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, in-person by appointment

Children who will be 5 years old on or before August 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten in. Emporia schools offer full-day kindergarten at all elementary schools. Please complete a Kindergarten Information Form (Spanish Form) and take it to Student & Family Resources at Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. 7th Ave.

For all new students, please bring copies of:

  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Immunization records
  • Physical exam completed since August 1 of last year

All enrollments must be completed in Student & Family Resources at Mary Herbert Education Center. 

Elementary Attendance Centers & Boundaries

A child’s elementary attendance center is based on a family’s home address. What elementary school do you attend?

Requests to attend an attendance center in another neighborhood may be considered. 2019-20 Transfer Request Form

Deadline for requests is July 1 for the upcoming school year. More information is available from the Student & Family Resources Office, 620-341-2396.

Applying for Free or Reduced Meal Benefits

Paper applications for free or reduced-price meals are available at Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W 7th Ave.,  or the Food Service Department at Emporia High School, 3302 W 18th Ave., 620-341-2382.

School Supplies:

As you begin making preparations for the new school year, we wanted to let you know that once again the First United Methodist Church of Emporia, along with many community partners and individuals,  has generously donated all school supplies for all students Pre-K through 12th grade for the 2019-20 school year.

The only supplies parents will need to provide are a box of kleenex and backpacks for students to transport their materials to and from school.  The school supplies will be delivered directly to each school before the first day of school.

We are very excited about continuing this partnership with the FUMC and hope it will ease some of the back-to-school expenses for families.

No textbook rental or enrollment fees K-12
Required technology fee – Grades K-12 – $20 ($15 if reduced meal eligible; $10 if free lunch eligible) Unpaid technology fees from previous years. will be collected during enrollment.
Required activity fee – Grades 6-12 – $10
