Welcome to Flint Hills Learning Center
The Flint Hills Learning Center (FHLC) is U.S.D. 253’s alternative learning education center. The FHLC primarily provides high school and adult learners an opportunity to earn high school credit and further their education through an online and blended learning approach that is located at the Flinthills Mall. In order to achieve the district’s mission and vision for “building futures” and “preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s opportunities,” FHLC staff foster an educational environment that demonstrates academic and cognitive development in balance with the need to cultivate relationships and connect with our community. Staff work to meet the needs of our diverse learners through many pathways, including courses to achieve a high school diploma and others that support English language acquisition.
The FHLC primarily uses Odysseyware as the online learning platform. Odysseyware allows for personalized, blended, and authentic learning opportunities for students. The program also allows Emporia educators to support the varying instructional needs and interests of students. As Odysseyware states, “The core of the Odysseyware® online learning program is a robust course library of standards-aligned, dynamic and pedagogically sound curriculum. The curriculum is designed to empower students to build proficiency, achieve content mastery, and engage in rich and challenging real world applications.”

• approximately 250 adult learners
• approximately 75 high school students
