First United Methodist Church has added to its sizable donation of school supplies for Emporia Public Schools students.
The Emporia church has announced it will now provide most school supplies for students at Emporia High School for the 2017-18 school year. Parents will have to buy highlighters, dry erase markers, facial tissue and composition notebooks.
“We greatly appreciate the donation to make life easier for our students and their families,” said Emporia High Principal Britton Hart. “We also appreciate the partnerships that have developed to set the stage for this donation.”
“The church is extremely grateful for the community support of this project. A mission of this magnitude could not be accomplished without the assistance of our sponsors and the many, many individuals who contributed to this endeavor,” said FUMC spokesperson and drive organizer Dana Roemer.
Roemer said area churches, businesses and individuals offered contributions, with some donations covering supplies for entire schools.
First United Methodist Church had previously committed to supplying everything except backpacks and facial tissues for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students for the upcoming school year.
This is the second straight year FUMC has made such a donation to USD 253.
