Emporia High School Band to Debut New Uniforms in 2025

November 13, 2024 – On Wednesday evening, the Emporia Public Schools Board of Education approved a significant investment in new uniforms for the Emporia High School Band. The new uniforms are set to debut at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year. The $105,105.07 purchase includes 135 complete uniforms, eight of which are designed specifically for Drum Majors. The uniforms will be made by Wichita’s Fruhauf Uniforms Inc., a company known for high-quality band apparel. Each uniform will be sewn by hand to ensure they are of the highest quality.

The design process for these new uniforms was a collaborative effort. In August, members of the Emporia High School music department traveled to Fruhauf’s Wichita facility for an in-depth design day, meeting with company representatives, owners, and a graphic designer. During this session, the EHS music directors had the chance to feel various materials, review numerous uniform samples, and select a silhouette that best suited the band’s style and needs. After considering multiple design concepts, the group chose a design that complimented a unique balance between modern and traditional style uniforms. 

The new uniforms offer several enhanced features and are designed to provide more comfort and functionality for the students. They are made from lighter, stretchable materials, and will provide greater freedom of movement and be more resistant to tears.  The new uniforms will be tailored to the current measurements of band members and feature adjustable sleeves and pants, reducing the need for hemming and allowing for more of a custom fit. To help protect the district’s investment in band uniforms, a department aide is overseeing uniform management, and a new software system is in place. Every uniform component will be tracked, which will greatly improve the overall management of the uniform inventory.

This investment aligns with the district’s ongoing commitment to the performing arts and the music department's goals of growing the band program. The Emporia High School Band anticipates expanding to 100-plus members within the next four years. The new uniforms are a positive addition that will support both current and future students. The Emporia community can look forward to seeing the new uniforms on display in the fall of 2025, highlighting the district’s support for its talented students and dedication to success in the performing arts.
