Emporia Public Schools would like to announce the hiring of Ms. Morgan Pearson, Emporia Middle School assistant principal, and Ms. Taylor Scott, Emporia High School head girls basketball coach.

                

 

After completing the interview process, Ms. Morgan Pearson has been selected as the assistant principal at Emporia Middle School for the 2024-25 school year. Pearson is currently employed with the school district as an instructional coach at EMS, a position she has held for the past two years.  Before serving as an instructional coach she taught math in the district for 10 years.

 

"I am deeply honored, excited, and appreciative of the opportunity to serve as an assistant principal at Emporia Middle School.  I look forward to collaborating with a fantastic group of administrators, staff, students, and parents to help contribute to the continued success of our school.” said Pearson, “I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to begin this new chapter in my career at Emporia Middle School."

 

Emporia Middle School Principal, Mr. John Martin said, “Ms. Pearson is a long-time school district employee who has taught math at multiple levels here in the Middle School.  She has been a participant in the district Leadership Academy for aspiring administrators and has been leading the professional development at EMS for the past two years as an instructional coach.  I appreciate her serious approach to increasing rigor here for our students while continuing to support our teachers.  She is an asset to the Emporia Middle School Community and we are excited for her to join our administrative team.

 

Pearson holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Emporia State University. Pearson will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Brad Jones and will begin the assistant principal position on July 1, 2024.  

 

Additionally, Emporia Public Schools has named Ms. Taylor Scott, as the head coach for the Emporia High School Lady Spartans basketball team.  Scott who teaches physical education at Emporia Middle School has been an assistant coach for the Lady Spartans for the past four seasons and was also the head coach for the Emporia Middle School girls basketball team this past season. When she began her teaching career with the district she was an assistant coach for the Emporia Middle School boys basketball team. 

 

“From my time at ESU to teaching in the district, the Emporia community has always been so supportive and felt like home. Coaching at both the middle school and high school for the past five years has truly allowed me to develop the most incredible relationships with students, athletes, colleagues, and community members.” said Scott, “Words cannot explain how truly ecstatic and thankful I am to continue to work with our student-athletes in this new role!

 

Mr. Beau Welch, assistant principal/athletic director at Emporia High School said, “We are excited to offer Taylor Scott the opportunity to be the head coach of our girls' basketball program. She is familiar with our student-athletes and has been a part of the program for the past few seasons. She brings experience, competitiveness, and a passion for our school as our new head basketball coach.”

 

Scott has a Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health.
