District Maintenance Updates, June 26, 2024

On Wednesday evening at the USD 253 Board of Education meeting, Mr. Cory Nicolet, Director of Maintenance and Grounds, updated the board regarding the capital improvement projects currently taking place across the district.

At the February 28, 2024, Board meeting, Nicolet provided a presentation with costs and pictures called Immediate Big Projects Maintenance Needs List, which included just under six million dollars in Capital Outlay projects. Since then, several projects have been completed, and more are underway. At this time, maintenance project work is being completed at Logan Avenue Elementary, Emporia Middle School, and Emporia High School.

“It is very exciting to bring so much of our district up to current standards of safety, productivity, and aesthetics.” said Nicolet, “The projects have focussed heavily on increasing accessibility beyond ADA minimum requirements and simplifying the future preventative maintenance we will perform.  The improvements will positively impact students' abilities to maximize learning and their school experiences as well as contribute to the overall representation of our community.”

The district will continue to provide updates as future maintenance projects begin and are completed over the next several months. By investing in these areas, the district can successfully support the students' academic success and overall well-being. These strategic investments reflect the district’s commitment to its students and will provide benefits for years to come.
