Emporia, KS – December 11, 2024 – At the Wednesday evening Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Allison Anderson-Harder and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Student Services Mrs. Judy Stanley presented the Emporia Public Schools Quarterly Report, celebrating a number of key accomplishments that reflect the district’s ongoing dedication to excellence. Highlights of the Quarterly Report included the Emporia High School Art Department's recognition at the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) District Showcase, extensive infrastructure improvements across district facilities, and an increase in staff retention rates at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
The Emporia High School Art Department was selected to participate in the annual KASB Convention District Showcase this past November. The department’s booth provided live demonstrations of jewelry making, metalwork, painting, and drawing. In addition to live artistry, the display included a variety of digital art, glasswork, sculpture, and ceramics, along with behind-the-scenes videos and slideshows that displayed the student artists' creative process. This achievement highlighted the outstanding talent of Emporia High School students and teachers, earning widespread recognition for their excellent work.
Additionally, Emporia Public Schools made significant progress in improving district facilities beyond the bond construction work. Key projects included parking lot and entrance upgrades, as well as new carpet installations at both Emporia High School (EHS) and Emporia Middle School (EMS). In total, over $5 million of the capital outlay funds was invested in infrastructure improvements district-wide. These necessary upgrades addressed critical needs while creating enhanced physical environments for students and staff.
Another major highlight from the Quarterly Report was the improvement in staff retention. Teacher turnover rates declined significantly compared to the previous four years, showcasing the district’s commitment to supporting and retaining talented educators. This accomplishment helps to create a stable and thriving educational environment, benefiting both students and staff.
The Emporia Public Schools Quarterly Report highlights the district’s commitment to fostering creativity, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting its educators. From celebrating the exceptional talent of the Emporia High School Art Department to addressing vital facility needs and improving teacher retention, the report reflects the district’s support of the Strategic Plan and dedication to excellence. With the continued support of students, staff, and the community, these efforts are paving the way for a brighter future
