Emporia Public Schools Board of Education Votes to Subsidize the Cost of Reduced Meals for 2024-25 School Year.

Emporia, KS - August 14, 2024 – The Emporia Public Schools Board of Education has taken another significant step to support the well-being of its students and families. During their meeting on Wednesday evening, the Board approved subsidizing the cost of reduced meals for the 2024-2025 school year. The Board approved to subsidize the cost of reduced meals for the 2023-2024 school year so this is the second consecutive year this opportunity has been offered.

This initiative means that students who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive them at no cost to their families. The Board’s decision supports the district’s commitment to ensuring that every student has access to nutritious meals, which are essential for their academic success and overall well-being.

“It is important to understand that even a reduced meal cost can be a burden for some families, and we are committed to making sure that all students have the nourishment they need to be successful in school," said Dr. Allison Anderson-Harder, Superintendent. "By removing this financial barrier, we are taking another step towards equity and enhancing our students' ability to thrive.

"Families who qualify for reduced meals do not need to take any additional action to benefit from this subsidy. The adjustment will automatically be applied to their student’s meal account as needed. Emporia Public Schools is proud to continue this support and remains dedicated to all students' health, well-being, and academic achievement.
