Reading Strategist
and
Literacy Coach

Mrs. Frevert

Mrs. Frevert has a new job as reading strategist and literacy coach this year.  She started teaching at Walnut in 1976.  She has always taught first grade until this year. Mrs. Frevert enjoys seeing the growth the students make during the year. They learn SO much!
Mrs. Frevert has a Master's Degree in Reading from ESU, with an area of concentration in Art. She has seen many things come and go in education over the years.  Some of the teaching methods she used years ago are now back “in”.  She says, "It’s funny to see the pendulum swing."  One change for the better was the introduction of computers into the classrooms.  They help the students keep current and give an opportunity for those who don’t have a computer at home to become familiar with them at school.
Mrs. Frevert enjoys the friendly atmosphere of a neighborhood school such as Walnut.  She has had brothers and sisters of the same family and now she has sons and daughters of the students that were in her classroom.  It is fun to see their reaction when they come back into their classroom. It is really rewarding.
Mrs. Frevert enjoys reading children’s books, especially the humorous ones. Two of her favorite authors are Harry Allard and Barbara Park (Junie B. Jones). She also enjoys the art work in books such as those by Jan Brett.
Mrs. Frevert loves her job and loves the children at Walnut School.
