     On October 8, 2004, the first grade classes from Walnut Elementary attended Safari Edventure Day at the Emporia Zoo.  We took some photos and wrote about what we learned at the zoo.  This is our class wearing our new shirts we received at the zoo in the photo on the left. Last March, we celebrated Dr. Seuss's 100th birthday. 

     Hi. My name is Nancy Meinholdt.  I started teaching first grade at Walnut Elementary in 2003. I began teaching in 1991 at William Allen White Elementary School.  I previously taught third grade for ten years.  I have also taught second, fourth and fifth grade classes.
     Teaching first grade is fun and rewarding.  I enjoy seeing the excitement on children’s faces when they learn something new.
     I enjoy working with a great staff.  All the teamwork and support here at Walnut School create a good learning environment.  Students work hard and are proud of their school.  I think the TV show and popcorn Fridays are cool.
     I enjoy spending time with my family.  I have three daughters. They keep me busy going to their sporting events, 4-H activities and many other activities.  In my spare time I enjoy scrapbooking.
