Mrs. Korte has been teaching at Walnut since 1993. She taught in the Topeka School district for ten years before moving with her family to Emporia. While at Walnut, Mrs. Korte taught reading for 5 years before moving to a second grade classroom. While teaching reading she had the opportunity to work with kindergarten through 5th grade students.
Mrs. Korte earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary and early childhood education and a Master's degree from Emporia State University.
Teaching reading in her second grade classroom is what Mrs. Korte enjoys the most. It is very rewarding seeing her students get excited about good authors and great books! Her classroom computers, with lots of fun reading programs, help reinforce good reading skills that her students like to use during literacy center time. Mrs. Korte also likes to make learning fun and exciting by using speakers from the community in her classroom and going on lots of field trips. She feels both are wonderful learning experiences for her second graders. In 1999, Mrs. Korte wrote a grant to receive funds for "A Day on the Farm" field trip. It was so much fun they have gone every year since.

Children are half of our population---
