Questions and Answers

Question:  What hours is school in session?
Answer:  Our school day begins at 8:43 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  On Wednesday, school ends at 2:20 p.m. so teachers can plan together.

Question:  How early should my student arrive at school?
Answer:  Students who eat breakfast at school should not arrive before 8:15 a.m.  Students wait in the hall until 8:35 when they go to their classrooms.

Question:  What should I do if my child will be absent?
Answer:  Please call the school office by 9:00 a.m. to report your child's absence or late arrival.

Question:  What are the procedures for visiting my child's classroom?
Answer:  Parents and volunteers are always welcome.  If you would like to talk to the teacher, please schedule an appointment in advance.  Always check in at the office when you arrive in the school building.

Question:  How can I contact my child's teacher?

Answer:  Teachers can be contacted by email anytime.  Walnut staff email addresses are available on the district web site or on each teacher's web page.   The best time to phone a teacher is during his or her plan time.  Please take a moment to check this schedule of the teachers' plan times.  At other times you will need to leave a message and have the teacher return your call.

Question:  What are the prices for student and adult meals at school?  Where can I find a menu?
Answer:  K-4 Breakfast-$1.50
                 K-4 Lunch-$2.00
                 Adult Breakfast-$1.75

                 Adult Lunch-$2.75  
The foodservice department posts an online menu each month.

Question: When does my child go to lunch?
Answer: Kindergarten -12:00
               1st Grade-12:05
               2nd Grade-12:10
               3rd Grade-12:15
               4th Grade-12:20

Question: Why are some of the school's entrance doors locked, and why am I required to wear a visitor's badge during the school day?

Answer:  All exterior doors are locked from the outside with the exception of the doors outside the office in order to ensure the security of students and staff.   We ask that you check in at the office as soon as you arrive in the building.  At this time you'll be issued a visitor's badge. It is important to monitor individuals entering and leaving our building in order to provide a safe environment for your children. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
