What's new with Emporia Wrestling?

  • Based on an outstanding senior season Mark Kolmer has been voted the 2010 KWCA 5A Senior Wrestler of the Year.  For the season Mark earned an undefeated 37-0 record and was a League, Regional, and State Champion.  Mark was also voted a 5A Regional Wrestler of the Year.

  • Emporia High School finished in 3rd place at the Emporia Winter Duals.  EHS compiled a 4-1 record by defeating Kapaun Mt. Carmel 51-21, Washburn Rural 58-12, and Maize South 68-6, and Junction City 42-23 while losing to eventual champion Valley Center 25-34.  Emporia wrestlers finishing undefeated were Chase Sanchez, Logan Gaskill, Mark Kolmer, and Lorenzo Serna.  Thanks to all the fan and workers for making the Emporia Dual Tournament a huge success.  To view results click on the following link:  Emporia Duals Results and Individual Dual Results for all teams .
  • On Saturday, January 16th, 2010 while competing in the Newton Invitational three time state placer Mark Kolmer earned his 100th career win.
  • Emporia High School finished in third place at the 47th Annual Newton Tournament Of Champions this past Friday and Saturday.    EHS scored 146.5 points and placed seven wrestlers in the top 5.  Champions were Logan Gaskill and Mark Kolmer while Brandon Charbonneau and Lorenzo Serna finished in second place.  Mark Kolmer was named Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament.  To view results click on the following links.  Newton Team ScoresEmporia Results, and 2010 Newton Brackets.   Emporia finals matches can be viewed on YouTube by searching for Newton Tournament.
  • Emporia High School hosted the Winter Wrestling Classic this past Saturday.  EHS had four champions:  Brandon Charnonneau, Logan Gaskill, Mark Kolmer, and Lorenzo Serna.  As a team Emporia finished in second place with 179.5 points.  To view results click on the following links.   Emporia Results2009 WWC Brackets, 2009 WWC Placers, and 2009 WWC Team Scores.  Thanks to all the parents and fan who came out and supported the Emporia Wrestling program and thanks to all the workers who made the tournament possible.
  • Winter Wrestling Classic
  • The Emporia High School Wrestling Team competed in the Topeka Highland Park Varsity Tournament on Saturday.  EHS entered four varsity newcomers and eight top JV wrestlers in this tournament.  As a team EHS finished in second place just 13.5 points behind Royal Valley.

  • On Friday November 20, 2009, Emporia Middle school finished the Topeka Seaman Wrestling tournament with third place out of ten teams.  Junction City taking first, and host team Topeka Seaman taking second.  This was a varsity meet consisting of only the best of each weight class from each school.    EMS finished with a 25-16 record.

  • The Emporia Middle School wrestlers did well at the Silver Lake Wrestling Tournament (Saturday November 14, 2009).  There were 16 different schools entered in the meet, and Emporia, as a team got third place.  The Vikings had 8 first place medalist, 2 second placers, 4 third placers, and 6 fourth placers.  (11-16-09)

  • The Emporia Middle School wrestling team hosted the 16th Annual Emporia Middle School Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.  EMS finished in 1st place with 159 points just ahead of Pioneer Ridge who scored 150 points.  EMS crowned five individual champions:  Max Detwiler, Brett Charbonneau, KC Sparks, Nollan Kirmer, and Christian Torres.  Overall, the wrestlers for EMS had a great day and hats off to all the parents and high school wrestlers who came out to help support the EMS wrestlers.  Click on 2009 EMS Tournament to download final team scores and brackets.  (11-08-09)
