After high school, he received a degree in engineering and pursued an active
career at Kansas power and Light. During World War II, he was a member of the SeaBees
from 1943-1945. Mr. Rider was an active member of the Emporia School Board and
helped with the construction of EHS. He is also active in his church and community.
Mr. Rider has given selflessly of both his time and abilities to the Emporia
community for more than 50 years. He has been a tireless worker demanding top
performance of himself as well as those he was working with. He always was determined
to finish a job in spite of difficulty or opposition, believing an answer could be found, his
nomination states.
