Rita J. Larkin is a 1958 graduate of EHS, where she was involved in student
council, vocal music, debate, Y Teens and drama. She received a bachelor’s degree from
St. Mary’s College in 1964, a master’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1970, and
was certified as a social worker through the University of the State of New York in 1986.

Mrs. Larkin has worked in the social services field in health care, elementary
school and child care settings in the state of New York. In 1980 she joined St. Mary’s
Children and Family Services, a residential youth treatment center, and was named
director of social services in 1989.

During her career, she has worked with parents and foster parents from Harlem to
Bedford Stuyvesant. She helped develop a foster boarding home program in New York
City, supervises social work interns and has served in a variety of professional leadership
positions. Colleagues describe her as a true professional committed to children and their families.
