Renaissance

What is Renaissance?

Renaissance is a nationwide program designed to motivate and encourage students and staff by rewarding academic excellence.

The Renaissance Program at Emporia High School recognizes ATTITUDE or those who show great improvement. As they would in the business world, students and staff work harder for tangible incentives and in turn, develop a greater sense of pride.

Renaissance is a partnership between business and education which brings ideas and people together and finds ways for students to experience the joy of learning. The program also recognizes educators as dedicated and valuable professionals.

EHS Crime Stoppers

EHS Crime Stoppers was started at Emporia High in the spring of 1994. The program was designed to provide confidentiality and a cash reward for those students providing information concerning crimes which occur or may occur at Emporia High.

Rewards are determined by an 8 member board of Directors composed of two students from each class. Board members are selected by the Crime Stoppers coordinator using recommendations from the faculty. Membership on the board is confidential. Each individual member is free to identify themselves as a member of the board. Board members possess the following qualities: good academic performance, respected by peers and staff, honest, mature, and the ability to work in a confidential manner.

EHS Crime Stoppers will pay out rewards of up to $100 for information which (1) may prevent a crime from occurring or, (2) leads to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for any crime. In the past 7 years, the program has paid out over $1000 in rewards for information that solved crimes involving drugs, alcohol, weapons, thefts and vandalism.

To report a crime, students may contact any administrator, or call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 341-CEHS (2347). During the day, the call may be answered by Mr. Turner. After school hours, an answering machine will take the call. We never ask for the student's name, only the information concerning the crime. A code name or number will be given for future contact. Rewards are paid out in the office or the student may drive through the First National Bank with their code name or number to receive payment.

Rewards are funded through the Lyon County Crime Stoppers Chapter. Donations to EHS Crime Stoppers are always welcome. Questions or comments concerning the program may be directed to:
