2007-2008 begins my 37th year of teaching
at Emporia High School. I am a Spartan through and through and I look
forward to a new year with new students and those I have had before.
I am originally from Lincoln, Kansas. I attended Kansas
State Teacher's College and graduated with a BSE in Latin
and English in 1971. 1971 was a good year because I married
Harold Schwinn that year and began teaching at EHS in
September. In May of 1979 I received an MA in English from
Emporia State Universtiy. I have two grown daughters. Sara
is an English teacher at Mill Valley High School. She is married Tom Sedgwick who does construction work in the Kansas City area.. On May 4, 2007 Tom and Sara made us grandparents to Rebecca LeAnn.. Laura is
teaching Journalism here at Emporia High School.She is responsible for the newspaper and yearbook and is also the Spartan Club sponsor. I am proud
that my daughters have chosen education for their careers.
My husband works at Emporia State University in Technology Services.
At Emporia High I am chairman
of the Lanugage Arts Department. This year I will be teaching College
Prep English, Latin I, II, III, and IV,
in addition to my seminar class. I also sponsor the Latin Club. I am
a member of ENEA.
Personally, I am an active member
of Faith Lutheran Church where I am chairman of the Lutheran Women's Missionary
League, a member of the church's board of education, a teacher in Sunday
School and Vacation Bible School and sing in the church choir. My husband
and I enjoy following Spartan sports and attending music and drama events
at the high school. When I am not grading all of those papers, I enjoy
reading, cross stitching, our cat, Josie, and Lexie, a miniature dachshund.
