Welcome back to another great year at Logan Avenue Elementary School!  Our team is excited to see each of our students and families in a few weeks.  This is going to be an amazing year for the Logan Lions!  

We have a few staffing changes this fall I would like to share with you.  

K – Liesa Wecker, Bailey Betts

1st – Emily Joplin, Lacy Brokaw, Valerie Patterson – We will have 3 sections of 1st grade.

2nd – Jared Kitselman, Emily Overton

3rd – Cheryl Lagasse, Brooke Bouthillier

4th – Madeline Dierking, Ashley Brooks

5th – Mary Beth Bonitatibus (Literacy) & Jennie Woods (Math,Science, Social Studies)

Music – Samuel Barrett

Please help me welcome the new staff to our building.

Start times – Our doors will open at 7:20 this fall.  Breakfast will be served from 7:20 to 7:40.  Please make certain students are at school prior to 7:40 if they wish to eat breakfast with us.  Breakfast is served in the gym.  Students in kindergarten, first, second, fourth, and fifth grades will be seated in the hallway outside of their classroom until the first bell rings at 7:56.  Third grade students will remain seated in the gym from 7:20 to 7:56.  The school day begins promptly at 8:00.  If your student is tardy please make certain to sign them in with the office upon arrival.  

Dismissal – School will dismiss daily at 3:12.  Students not picked up by 3:20 will report to the office and the parent/guardian will need to come into the office to sign the child out.  The end of the day routines for pick up, students walking, or riding the bus will remain the same.  Rec Extra will continue to be available for those families who need childcare beyond 3:12.  

Lunch – Students will receive a 30 minute lunch break with their team.  This change will allow more time for students to eat, however, they will not attend a recess break at this time.  This change is a result of the shorter school day.  They will continue to have a classroom recess break opposite of when they attend specials classes, such as PE, music, library, etc.

Other important reminders as we begin the year are:

Release of Students During the School Day – Please make certain that if your child is being picked up during the school day by anyone other than their parent/guardian that the office is notified by a parent/guardian with a written note or phone call in advance.

Logan Lion Pride Volunteer Opportunities – Mrs. Fessler will be scheduling opportunities for those family members interested in volunteering at school in September.  Please notify Mrs. Fessler if you would like to participate in this program.   Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the day and range from cafeteria help, to reading with students, and/or helping with copying, etc.  There will also be an opportunity for parents who arrive early for dismissal to assist staff with materials preparation.

Family Engagement Opportunities – During the last two spring semesters the PTO members at Logan discussed moving away from a traditional PTO structure due to lack of attendance and moving to the utilization of a family engagement school based group.  We decided last spring to make the above change. Each month our school will host different activities which will allow for your family to be involved in our school community.  Please watch the website, notes home, and calendar for these dates and times.  The family engagement school based group will be responsible for organizing and facilitating the activities we host each month.  We will be reaching out to our parent population for help in conducting activities.  Please leave your name with your child’s classroom teacher if you would be willing to help us with events during the school year.  We welcome your feedback as we implement this new structure.  Please feel free to schedule time to visit with myself and our family engagement chair if you have ideas for us to consider.  

Site Council Meetings – Site Council meetings will be added to our online school calendar.  This group is an advisory committee and will be hearing information related to the current issues in our school and within the district.  It is an open meeting and family members are welcome to attend even if they are not a Council member.  These meetings will be held over the lunch hour in our library.

Coffee and Conversation – Monthly morning meet and greet sessions will be held at Logan in the library.  Coffee will be served and it will be a good time to visit with staff, meet other parents, and hear about important topics in our school and district.  We hope you can join us when possible.  

Celebrating Good Things – Please follow our school on Facebook and take time when you are in the building to check out the lobby monitor which will highlight photographs of the many good things happening in our classrooms daily.  We also encourage you to check our school webpage on a regular basis as well to stay informed about event dates/times, testing schedules, etc.

Growing to Greatness – We will spend the first few days of school in team building activities, getting to know each other games, and in building the best habits of learning.  Our staff will be implementing a process called Capturing Kids Hearts this year.  The focus of the process is helping to foster strong relationships between students and between teachers and students.  We encourage you to visit with your child and their teacher about this exciting opportunity.  There may be pieces of the process you would find helpful in utilizing at home and we are happy to share.

Power of Positive Communication – Most importantly, please know that our doors are always open and we value the opportunity to visit with our families.  Teachers are frequently available before and after school daily, as well as, during their plan time.  Please schedule time to visit with your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns – we want your child’s educational experience with us to be top notch and that takes teamwork between home and school.  You are their first teacher and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with your family along this journey.
