Two Emporia Schools Selected for Spotlight Awards

Logan Avenue and Village Elementary Schools have been selected for recognition in the Kansas Schools of Character Recognition Program. Both schools will receive a Spotlight Award for Social, Emotional and Character Development on May 7 in Topeka. The award recognizes schools that build capacity for social/emotional growth and recognize character traits in students and adults.

The Kansas Schools of Character Recognition initiative is a partnership with the Kansas State Department of Education, and Topeka City of Character and the Brown v. Board of Education Historical Site. The program highlights schools and districts that have demonstrated education principles in that include creating a caring school community, engaging families and community members as partners in character-building efforts, fostering self-motivation, and implementing meaningful and challenging academic curriculum that respects all learners, develops character, and helps students succeed.
