Welcome to Success  This unit is a literature rich unit that ignites a discussion about the necessary traits for a year of success. (1) Generating a list of traits that facilitate success; (2) Identifying traits portrayed by characters in literature; (3) Ranking traits in order of importance; (4) Justifying the top three and two bottom ranked traits; (5) Agreeing on 10-12 traits for success; (6) Defining these traits in student friendly language; (7) Reflect in writing how students are demonstrating these traits at school and home; (8)  Reflect and discuss how peers are demonstrating these traits at school; (9) Reflect in writing which attitudes are one’s strengths; (10)  Set goals for a successful year  7 Picture Books Are Recommended

 

5B Demonstrate the ability to manage anger in constructive ways.

Anger management using the gymnasium  This lesson gives students knowledge and practice of how to cool down before anger escalates. It also introduces the students to the concept that they can be in control of their anger instead of the anger controlling them.

Language Arts/ Writing About Anger Using the book This Morning My Dad Shouted  to introduce that anger can affect other people, and that anger is an emotion that all people share.

Anger Triggers Teaching students to identify anger triggers in others.

Expressing visual cues of anger in an Art form Students will recognize that anger has visible outward signs. They will also recognize their own body cues and those of others when they are angry.

5C Utilize stress reduction techniques to deal with daily academic and social situations.
