Emporia Public Schools is announcing the hire of Jacob Linnell as assistant principal and athletic director of Emporia Middle School. His appointment was approved by the Emporia Board of Education June 14.

“I am both excited and eager to be starting a new home and career in Emporia,” Linnell said.

Linnell has been serving as athletic director at Tonganoxie Middle School since 2014. In addition, he has been a Spanish teacher and the school’s Multi-Tier System of Supports coordinator, serving in that capacity since 2014. He also spent three years teaching in the Kansas City, Kan. school district.

Prior to starting his teaching career, Linnell received his bachelor’s degree in secondary Spanish education from Baker University in 2008 and his master’s degree from the University of Kansas in 2010. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in Administration and Leadership from  KU.

Linnell begins his new position July 1.
