About Me:

The 2007-2008 school year will mark my sixth year in teaching. After teaching a year at Marysville Junior/Senior High School, a 4A high school in Marysville, KS--go Bulldogs!, I returned to my alma mater, Emporia High School, as a teacher during the 2003-2004 school year. I taught a year of Freshman and Junior English my first year at Emporia High and during the 2004-2005 school year, I began teaching journalism.  I am excited to be starting my sixth year of teaching and my fourth year of teaching journalism.

I am an Emporia native and graduated from EHS in 1998. I attended Kansas State University and graduated with a BSE in English and Journalism in 2002. While at Kansas State, I was a member of Alpha of Clovia 4-H leadership and scholarship house and spent my summers working at Rock Springs 4-H Center. During my senior year at KSU, I was a student teacher at Shawnee Mission South High School. I come from a family of teachers and am lucky enough to be teaching with my mom again this year at EHS. My sister, Sara, teaches English at Mill Valley High School, in Shawnee, KS, and my dad works at Emporia State University.

At Emporia High, I teach two classes of Introduction to Journalism, Newspaper, Yearbook and Photojournalism and Ad Design, in addition to my seminar class. I also co-sponsor of Spartan Club, a spirit organization at EHS. I am also a member of our local teacher's association, ENEA and co-chair of the NCA Reading Committee.

Personally, I am an active member of Faith Lutheran Church where I sing in the choir and play my flute and sometimes the organ for church services. In my free time, I love cheering on the Spartans, reading, and spending time with family, friends, and my dog, Hank. On the weekends I can usually be found in Manhattan cheering on the Wildcats. I am excited to be teaching at EHS and hope that this site will be utilized by students and parents alike. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to call or email me at lschwinn@usd253.org
