Parents of Walnut Students,

This letter is to inform you that our Open House is scheduled for Monday, August 17th from

4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and to provide general information about Walnut

Our Open House is a time for you to bring your child to introduce him or her to the classroom teacher, deliver school supplies, ask questions, and make connections.  Teachers may share their classroom schedule and classroom rules.

Kindergarten students will not yet be assigned teachers as we will use our Jump Start and first two days as a time to orient students first.  If you have a Kindergarten student, please refer to my letter that more specifically outlines that plan.

During this time there will be Parent Teacher Organization sign-up sheets and other parent information in the lobby.  We have exciting PTO events for which we need parent involvement and support!  In the library there will be informational sessions at 4:00 p.m. and again at 5:15 p.m. for parents new to Walnut.

When school begins on August 20th for all students, Walnut provides free child care beginning at 7:15 a.m.  This is available during each day that school is in session and funded by our PTO.  RecXtra is available for after school care on days that school is in session.  Parents may enroll their children by going to the Emporia Recreation Center at 313 W 4th Avenue.  For questions, please contact the ERC at 620-340-6300.

Dismissal is daily at 3:12 p.m.  It is important that parents or adult responsible for picking up students park their vehicles on a side street or the parking area as it is unsafe to load in the street.  Kindergarten students must be picked up in the lobby and 1st grade students are picked up outside of our double doors on the East side.  The safety of our students is a high priority and that is why those systems are in place.

If you have questions, please contact the Walnut Elementary Office at 341-2288.
