About Lowther North Intermediate School

LNIS Mission & Vision

Lowther North Intermediate School, formerly Emporia High School, was built in 1923 and named in honor of Superintendent L.A. Lowther. He served Emporia and this school system as superintendent from 1896 until 1935. Lowther Middle School was reorganized as a two-year middle school here in 1974. Then in 1976, the sixth grade was moved to the north building. In 1993, it was renamed Lowther North Intermediate School.

On average, we have approximately 350 students per year. We have sixteen general education classrooms, two special education classrooms, and one functional life skills special education classroom.   The sixteen regular education classrooms are divided equally into four teams, red, blue, green and yellow.  Within these teams there is departmentalization of subject areas, meaning that your student will transition to multiple teachers within the team.  We utilize a multi-tier system of supports to ensure success for our students academically and behaviorally.  This system of supports utilizes instructional strategists, endorsed ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching staff, and a Student Support Specialist.  Our core curriculum includes math, language arts, science, and social studies.  We offer physical education/health, music, art, library, and computer classes.  Band and Orchestra are the electives that are offered at Lowther North.  There are several other programs offered at Lowther North, including before school chorus, after school activities, extended learning opportunities, and a community mentoring program that focuses on reading. Our staff of over 60 strives to provide a safe, attractive, and supportive climate that encourages all students to achieve at their highest potential.

Welcome to our school!
