Substitute Teaching Staff

An introduction to job opportunities in substitute teaching.


QUALIFICATIONS: Substitute teachers must have a minimum of 60 hours of college credit and/or a teaching certificate from the Kansas State Department of Education.

COMPENSATION: Substitute teachers are paid $70 per day. An experience incentive of $100 will be rewarded after 40 days of substitute teaching in one school year and will be provided for each 10 day increment thereafter. After 20 consecutive days in the same classroom assignment, the pay rate will follow the licensed professional rate for all consecutive days retroactive to the first day in that assignment.

Kansas Substitute Teaching Licensure Limitations:

I. Emergency Substitute Teaching License 60 college credit hours 60 days per semester no more than 15 days in the same classroom
II. Emergency Substitute Teaching License any bachelor's degree 186 days per school year no more than 30 days in the same classroom
III. Substitute Teaching Certificate current or prior teaching certificate from Kansas or from another state 186 days per school year no more than 90 days in the same classroom
