Purpose/Mission: The Counselor Education Clinic was created by the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs to provide accessible counseling services to Emporia and the surrounding communities. It is for clients who might not otherwise have available service, while providing graduate students in all four counseling disciplines with a supervised counselor training experience.

Service Provided: A variety of counseling services are offered including individual counseling, couples and group counseling, family counseling, rehabilitation counseling, and career counseling, Assistance with a wide variety of issues and problems is given including relationship difficulties, mental health issues, and problem behaviors

Population Served: Members of the Emporia community and surrounding areas

Eligibility: No restrictions

Additional Information: Clients are seen by counselors-in-training under close supervision of faculty members. The only requirement is that clients agree to be recorded (either audio or video) so the supervising faculty member can review the sessions with the counselor-in-training.

Purpose/Mission: The Center serves the developmental and mental health needs of students enrolled at Emporia State University.

Service Provided: Counseling (personal, group, and academic), consultation and outreach programs on mental health issues, stress management and performance enhancement through biofeedback training, alcohol and other drug prevention and education, sexual assault prevention programs, and Women’s Center.

Population Served: Students enrolled at ESU.

Eligibility: Must be enrolled as a student at ESU.

Cost/Fees: Counseling, biofeedback services, and alcohol and other drug information is offered to ESU students at no additional charge.

To Access Services: Appointments can be scheduled by calling the office at 620-341-5221 or visiting the office (South Morse Hall, Room 211) on the ESU campus.

Purpose/Mission: The project goal is to retain and graduate from college, students that are first generation, low income and/or physically disabled, including learning disabilities

Service Provided: Tutoring, counseling (academic, career, and personal), student/faculty mentoring, financial aid counseling, cultural event trips and participation in Student Leadership conferences. Classes offered through the program; Freshman Seminar, Junior/Senior Seminar, Seminar in Leadership Skills and Assertion Training. In addition, all freshman are advised through our program their first year at ESU

Population Served: 165 served full-time students enrolled in 12 hours or more at Emporia State University

Eligibility: Must be a full-time ESU undergraduate enrolled in 12 hours or more and either a first generation, low income and/or a student with a physical disability

To Access Services: After the student is enrolled at ESU, he/she should contact the director. If he/she attends an ESU Enrollment day (SWARM) there will be a representative from the program there to meet with the student

Additional Information: Limited to serving 165 students. Therefore, students need to contact the director before classes begin. Students taken into services are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Purpose/Mission: The project goal is graduation of high school students and enrollment in and graduation from a four year university. Students must be potential first generation and or low income

Service Provided: Tutoring, counseling, (academic, career, and personal) mentoring, assistance with college application and financial aid forms, Saturday Enrichment programs, cultural and college trips and participation in Leadership conferences. In addition, each summer we offer a Summer Institute for five weeks and the students live in the residential halls at Emporia State University take classes such as; math, English, foreign language, science, career and ACT preparation, participate in the work study program, and a variety or other activities. At the end of the Institute they are taken on a cultural trip usually out of the state. As a Bridge student, (a student who has graduated from H/S in December or May) he./she has the opportunity to enroll in six college hours at ESU which is paid by the program.

Population Served: 50 students served. Students must be enrolled in Emporia, Northern Heights, Council Grove, or Chase County High Schools.

Eligibility: Must be enrolled in high school as a freshman or sophomore student and a potential first generation and or low income student.
