ART APPRECIATION COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Assignments:
1. Complete and hand in nine artist profiles using the form provided
on the website.
Bear in mind, that "less is NOT better" when completing these profiles.
Be explicit and very complete in your research summaries. You will be graded
on how through you are in your research and completion of these respective profiles.
You will need to read, take notes, and summarize the information for each profile.
If you find it difficult to find information on any phase of this course, rely
on Compton's Topic Tree- The Arts, to assist you.
Complete an artist profile on each of the following:
Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Grant Wood
Francisco de Goya, Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso
Alexander Calder, Albrecht Durer, Norman Rockwell
2. Write three essays on Architecture.
3. Write two essays on Architects.
4. Write one essay on a Sculptor.
5. Write three essays on Painters.
6. Write three essays on Drawing Artists.
7. Write one essay on a Photographer.

All essays are to be two pages minimum (double spaced, typed in Times New Roman
font 12 point size). Less than two pages will result in a substantial reduction
in grade. Remember to use the questions: Who, What, Where, Why, and How to assist
you in completing each report. Do not cut and paste the information into your
paper. It must be original (rephrasing is acceptable) or it will be considered
plagiarism and you will be required to completely redo the paper.
Resources: You may use Compton's Excursions (located on the computers), the Internet (following the links provided or search using Google), and Art History books which are available on request from the instructor.
8. Final Test:
On the final test you will be asked to tell which area of art (painting, sculpture,
etc.) the artist is best known for, name one of the major works, tell which
country they are from, and whether they lived before or during the 20th century,
for each of the artists you wrote a profile or essay about. You may study your
notes before the final but not use those notes on the test.
