Kansas Student Technology Leadership Awards!

On Wednesday 8 students competed in the Kansas Student Technology Leadership competition held at Kansas State. Forty schools competed from around the state and the competition was great. Here are the Emporia High results: In the website category, the E-Vision web site designed by Nirav Patel placed 5th. In the video production category, a news story on the Dody family and Cystic Fibrosis produced by Troy Laflin, Jodie Hollern, and Andrew Wayman placed 5th. In the Anti-Bullying Public Service Announcement category, Michael Young and Taylor Surmeier placed 2nd. In the technology integration category, Troy Laflin placed 4th.Winners In the multimedia category, Jodie Hollern and Andrew Wayman placed 4th for their work on cable channel 8 and EHS Channel 2. These award winning videos will soon be posted on Nirav Patel’s award winning website at www.usd253.org/evision

Web site wins KAB honor (Old Site)

WinnersThe E-Vision web site was awarded first place in the Kansas Association of Broadcasters 2008 Student Broadcast Awards. The web site was judged in the High School Television Station Website category. The E-Vision homepage was designed by EHS senior Nirav Patel. E-Vision is the closed-circuit channel broadcast daily at Emporia High School under the direction of Technology Education teacher Corey Wiltz. The web page can be viewed at www.usd253.org/evision. It contains links to all programming developed by EHS video broadcasting students. The award will be presented at the KAB Student Broadcast Seminar Monday at Wichita.

Students bring home festival awards

WinnersEmporia High School video broadcasting students brought home several awards from the En Fuego Film Festival earlier this month, according to EHS teacher Corey Wiltz. The film festival is a regional celebration of films created by students from grades K-12. It is sponsored by Lawrence Free State High School. The first place winners who received trophies are: Troy Laflin for "The Locker Room," Best Individual Project; and Jodie Hollern, Derek Rhoades and Taylor Surmeier for "A Dogs Tale," in Best Documentary and Best in Show. Other awards students received were: “Around EHS in 60 Seconds,” second, and “E-Vision Sports,” third in the Broadcast Category; “The Line Up,” second in the Class Project Category; and “Survivor Dude,” third in the Mockumentary Category.
