Enroll from any location with internet access through August 3

Enrollment for 2016-17 opens July 18 for the Emporia Public Schools. The process can be completed online from any location with internet access as long as it is submitted before midnight, August 3. 

Families with no computer or internet access can use district computers at Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. Seventh Ave., starting July 18. The enrollment office will be open 7:30 am – 6 pm, Monday – Thursday. Starting August 1, enrollment will be open from 7:30 – 4 Monday – Friday.

Letters will be mailed July 15 to parents of all returning students, kindergarten students who pre-registered during kindergarten orientation, and all new students to the district who have pre-registered at the district office. The letters will include a unique log-in code for each child in the family. The code is required to access a student’s information and make needed updates and corrections. Families who have email accounts on file with the schools also will receive email notifications about enrollment.

All K-12 students will be assessed a $21 technology fee to cover maintenance of the electronic technology devices that will be assigned to individual students this fall. Unpaid technology fees from the past year also will be collected at the time of enrollment.

All 6-12 students also will be required to pay a $10 activity fee per student. Yearbook and high school parking permit fees will be optional.  Parents can pay fees online using a credit card or debit card with no additional transaction charges. The district also will accept checks in person and by mail.

New Student Enrollment

New students to the district also will use the online system after pre-registering. Pre-registration can be done at Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. Seventh Ave., from 7:30 am to 6 pm, Monday – Thursday. In August, enrollment hours will change to 7:30 am – 4 pm Monday – Friday.

Parents of new students should bring a birth certificate, immunization records, and record of a physical exam taken any time during the child’s school career. New kindergarten students must have record of a physical exam done in the past year.

Students attending Flint Hills Learning Center will complete enrollment by appointment at the school in the Flinthills Mall, 1624 Industrial Rd. Call the school at 620-341-2250 for information.

Applications for free or reduced-price meals also will be available online. Printed applications also can be picked up at Mary Herbert Education Center and the District Food Service Office at Emporia High School.

Back-to-School Events

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 17 for students entering kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grades; and all students new to the district; and all students transferring to a new school this year. The first day of school for all other students is Aug.18.

All schools have open houses or orientations scheduled as follows:

  • Maynard Early Childhood Center – Aug 15, 3-5 pm
  • All Elementary Schools (including Turning Point Academy at W.A. White) – Aug. 15, 4-6 pm
  • Emporia Middle School – 6th grade, Aug. 11, 6-8 pm; 7th and 8th grade, Aug. 15, 6-8 pm
  • Emporia High School – Freshman & New Student Parent Informational Meeting & Tour, Aug. 16, 6 pm
  • EHS Principal Walk-and-Talk Tours for new students to EHS and their parents, 1-2 pm on these four Thursdays: July 21, July 28, August 4 and August 11
