Annual Staff Recognition Program Wednesday at EHS

Twenty-seven retiring teachers, administrators and school support staff members were guests of honor at the annual Emporia Public Schools Staff Recognition May 17 at Emporia High School.

“Collectively, these individuals have devoted 577 years to Emporia Public Schools. Over a span of nearly four decades, they have had a huge impact on the lives of children in our community,” said Superintendent Kevin Case.

Retiring staff members are: Katie Bacon, physical education,  Emporia High School; Cathrine Barnes, math EHS; Cheryl Barton, special education, Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative; Diana Delgado, secretary, EHS; Christine Dieker, paraeducator, Emporia Middle School; Jennifer Durham, teacher aide, Walnut; Wendy Fancher, head secretary, William Allen White; Julia Giger, instructional strategist, Logan Avenue; Chris Harvel, director, Infrastructure and Security; Maggie Henricks, assistant cook, EHS Food Service; Nancy Horst, director, Community Relations.

Also Les Key, bus driver, Transportation; John Lopez, bus driver, Transportation; Mike Luce, speech/language pathologist, FHSEC; David Mai, art, EHS; Shirley McCloud, fifth grade, Timmerman; Rick Miller, custodian, EHS; Vonna Nelson, secretary, EHS; Brenda Nickel, school nurse, elementary schools; Rocky Price, electrician, Maintenance; Cindy Rangel, paraeducator, Village; Sherry Renfro, language arts, EHS; Mary Rodriguez, head secretary, Maynard Early Childhood Center; Steve Rodriguez, custodian, Riverside; Bill Smith, maintenance & bus driver, Transportation; Vicky Taber, assistant cook, Timmerman; and Ruth Vilander, enrichment services, FHSEC.

During the program, Case and Board of Education members Susan Brinkman, Doug Epp, Art Gutierrez and Colleen Mitchell also presented service awards to 28 employees with 15, 25 and 35 years of service.

Employees with 35 years of service are: Barbara Fowler and Lori Tabares.

Employees with 25 years of service are: Andrew Boye, Kay Carl, Cathy Dorcas, George Elliott, Wendy Fancher, Jeanine Guthrie, Susan Irwin, Melanie Madden, Amy Perry and Christine Turner

Employees with 15 years of service are:  Paul Beadles, Jason Beyer, Elaine Rojas, Jamie Eisenbarth, Teresa Kraft , Shelly Lutes, Iona Moore, Amber Navarro, Vimalarogini Paramanathan, Angela Podrebarac, Melinda Riles, Christine Simons, Curtis Simons, Donna Sprague, Lisa Temeyer and Heather Wagner

Emporia NEA gave special recognition to 2017 Emporia Master Teacher Laura Schwinn, journalism teacher at Emporia High School.
