Community Drive for Students Has Many Needs
Clothing, Coats, Shoes, Hygiene Products & More
Clothing, shoes, coats and hygiene products are among the items being collected now through Oct. 14 for students attending Emporia schools. The annual drive provides clothing and personal item for children of all ages who would have limited family resources.
Drop-off locations have been established at: Dillon’s, Emporia Gazette, Emporia State Federal Credit Union, Flinthills Mall, the KVOE station, and Price Chopper.
The annual drive is sponsored by the Emporia Public Schools Student and Family Resources Office. The drive is being done earlier in the year so coats and other warm clothing can be distributed before cold weather arrives.
The greatest need, according to Heather Wagner, Student and Family Resource specialist, is new or nearly new children’s clothing for boys and girls, toddler sizes through adult sizes.
“We have the clothing drive every year because we saw a need within our district for students to have adequate clothing,” Wagner said. “By collecting new and gently used clothing donations in all sizes, we are able to serve families by redistribute those items.”
All donated items will be sorted, washed and distributed first to the school nurses and counselors. The Wash House Laundry, 515 E 17th Ave, is donating the laundry services. Families then will have an opportunity to select items they can use and the remainder will be donated to local organizations that serve families.
A complete list of items needed can be found on the school district website, www.usd253.org.
